Our group has four Toyota sites across the North Shore and West Auckland, as well as a Lexus dealership and two Bridgestone stores. Our diverse, talented team of around 170 people is what sets us apart, and we've proudly served the wider Auckland community for over 30 years.

Toyota is New Zealand's leading automotive brand, and we're committed to winning the hearts of New Zealanders through exceptional customer experiences and mobility for all. We're proud to represent a brand known for quality, reliability and innovation.

    About the role

We're looking for an experienced and motivated Workshop Controller to lead the day-to-day operations of our busy service workshop.

Reporting to the Aftersales Manager, you'll play a pivotal role in ensuring our workshop operates safely, efficiently and productively. You'll coordinate workflow, support our technicians with technical guidance, oversee quality control processes and work closely with our Service Advisors to deliver an outstanding customer experience.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys leading from the front, solving problems, mentoring others and continually improving workshop performance.

    Key responsibilities

As Workshop Controller, you'll be responsible for:
    • Coordinating daily workshop operations to maximise productivity, efficiency and workshop capacity.
    • Allocating and monitoring work to ensure all repairs are completed on time and to Toyota's high standards of safety and quality.
    • Managing and maintaining the workshop quality control (QC) process, including completing random quality checks and addressing recurring issues with technicians.
    • Ensuring technicians accurately interpret repair orders and complete work correctly the first time.
    • Providing technical support and guidance to technicians while assisting with complex diagnostic or repair concerns.
    • Supporting technician development by encouraging and coordinating required Toyota New Zealand and internal training.
    • Working closely with Service Advisors to communicate repair progress, delays and additional work requirements to customers in a clear and professional manner.
    • Monitoring inbound, current and upcoming repair orders to maintain efficient workshop flow and maximise customer satisfaction.
    • Supporting warranty procedures and ensuring Toyota processes are consistently followed.
    • Maintaining a safe, compliant workshop environment and promoting strong health and safety practices.
    • Protecting and maintaining workshop equipment, tools and company assets.
    • Keeping up to date with Toyota service schedules, technical bulletins, VIRM updates and manufacturer information.
    • Liaising with Toyota New Zealand on technical reporting and communication requirements.
    • Coaching, mentoring and supporting technicians, particularly apprentices, to help them succeed in their careers.
    • Working collaboratively with other departments and, when required, supporting our other group locations across Auckland.
    What we're looking for

To succeed in this role you'll bring:
    • Previous experience as a Workshop Controller, Workshop Foreman or senior workshop leadership position within the automotive industry.
    • Strong technical knowledge of vehicle servicing, diagnostics and repairs.
    • A proven ability to coordinate workshop workflow while maintaining high productivity and quality standards.
    • Experience mentoring technicians and supporting apprentice development.
    • Excellent organisational and planning skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
    • Outstanding communication skills and the ability to build strong relationships with customers, technicians and colleagues.
    • A proactive, solutions-focused approach with excellent problem-solving abilities.
    • Confidence using workshop management systems and technology.
    • A strong commitment to health and safety, quality workmanship and exceptional customer service.
    • A full, clean New Zealand driver's licence.
    • New Zealand citizenship or residency.
    What's in it for you?

    In return, we'll offer you:
    • Competitive remuneration.
    • Genuine opportunities for career development and ongoing Toyota training.
    • A supportive leadership team that invests in your success.
    • Great staff benefits including discounts on servicing, parts and vehicle purchases.
    • Wellbeing initiatives, social events, long service recognition and our Boost partnership.
    • A brand-new, purpose-built workshop with modern facilities.
    • A convenient Hobsonville location, avoiding the city commute.
    • The opportunity to join a respected organisation where teamwork, quality and customer satisfaction are at the heart of everything we do.
If you're passionate about leading people, delivering quality workmanship and helping create an exceptional customer experience, we'd love to hear from you. Apply today and become part of the Northern Bays Motors team.
