Tamatea High School is looking for a Learning Assistant to support a small group of Year 9 and 10 students with high learning needs - students who need someone alongside them to make each school day work. This role is about relationships as much as it is about learning. You'll support students with IEPs and/or additional needs in class, help them build the skills to work more independently over time, and be a steady, trusted presence during the moments that are hard. You'll work closely with our SENCO, classroom teachers, and pastoral team, and with outside specialists where a student's plan calls for it. No two days look the same - one might mean helping a student get through a maths lesson, the next might mean supporting them through a difficult moment outside class. We're looking for someone patient, consistent, and genuinely interested in young people - someone who can hold high expectations for a student while meeting them exactly where they are. Experience supporting people with additional needs is preferred, but what matters most is the way you work with people. This is a term-time role, hours by agreement, based at Tamatea High School in Napier. If this sounds like you, we'd like to hear from you.
