About the role
Ross Reid Contractors Ltd is looking for an experienced Drainlayer to join our civil construction team working across Queenstown, Wānaka and the wider Central Otago region.
This is a hands-on role involving the installation of drainage and pipe systems on large-scale civil construction and infrastructure projects.
You will work as part of an experienced site team to complete drainage installations accurately, efficiently and safely, in accordance with project plans, specifications and relevant New Zealand standards.
Key responsibilities
Your duties will include:- Installing and laying stormwater, wastewater and other drainage pipes
- Reading and interpreting drainage plans, construction drawings, specifications and level information
- Determining pipe routes, gradients, levels and connection points
- Setting out drainage works and preparing sites for excavation and installation
- Excavating and working safely in trenches and confined spaces
- Operating machinery and equipment used for trenching, pipe installation, compaction and backfilling
- Installing manholes, catchpits, sumps and associated drainage structures
- Assisting with the testing, inspection and verification of completed drainage systems
- Carrying out repairs and maintenance on drainage lines and associated components
- Identifying and managing hazards within the work area
- Completing required site records, quality documentation and job information
- Maintaining a clean, safe and organised work area
- Supporting and guiding other team members when required
Skills and experience required
Applicants must have:- A minimum of three years' drainlaying or pipe-installation experience
- Proven experience working on civil construction or infrastructure projects
- The ability to accurately read and interpret drainage plans and construction drawings
- Experience installing drainage pipes to specified lines, levels and gradients
- Competence in the use of drainage tools, excavation equipment and small plant
- Experience working safely in trenches and confined spaces
- A sound understanding of New Zealand drainage standards and safe work practices
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow site procedures
- The ability to work effectively both unsupervised and as part of a team
- A reliable, practical and positive approach to work
- The physical fitness required to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- A valid driver licence
- The ability to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test and comply with Ross Reid Contractors' Drug and Alcohol Policy
- A willingness to work Saturdays when required
Desirable qualifications and experience
The following would be advantageous:- New Zealand Registered or Certifying Drainlayer status
- A relevant trade qualification or completed drainlaying apprenticeship
- Leading Hand or Foreman experience
- Experience supervising drainage crews
- Experience working on major civil infrastructure projects
- Confined Space Entry certification
- Site Safe or equivalent construction safety training
- Experience with CCTV inspections, pressure testing or other drainage testing methods
- Experience operating excavators, compactors, pumps and other small plant
- A Class 2 driver licence
- Wheels, Tracks and Rollers endorsements
- Experience completing digital quality-assurance records and site documentation
