Three Rivers Contracting is a proudly Southland-owned business delivering contracting, quarrying and related services across the region. As we continue to grow, we're looking for an experienced Management Accountant who wants more than a traditional accounting role.

We're looking for someone who enjoys rolling up their sleeves. While you'll be comfortable handling day-to-day financial responsibilities when required, your real value will come from analysing performance, identifying opportunities, improving systems and helping us make smarter commercial decisions.
For the right person, this role has genuine scope to evolve. As the business grows, administrative support can be added, allowing you to focus more heavily on strategic financial analysis, commercial performance and leadership.
About the Role
Reporting directly to the leadership team, you'll play a key role in improving financial visibility across the business.
Your responsibilities will include:- Preparing monthly management accounts, including Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet and Cashflow reporting
- Producing meaningful divisional reporting and performance analysis
- Monitoring job profitability and identifying opportunities to improve margins
- Analysing machinery utilisation, operational productivity and equipment performance
- Managing weekly cashflow and maintaining rolling forecasts
- Leading annual budgets and ongoing financial forecasting
- Developing practical dashboards and reporting tools that support operational decision-making
- Supporting pricing, contract analysis and capital investment decisions
- Improving financial systems, reporting processes and business visibility
- Working closely with external accountants to ensure compliance with GST, PAYE, FBT and year-end reporting
- Partnering with operational managers to translate financial data into practical business improvements
About You
We're looking for someone who is commercially minded, naturally curious and enjoys understanding how a business operates - not just how the numbers look.
You'll need to bring:- A degree in Accounting, Finance or Commerce
- CA or CPA qualification (or working towards it)
- At least 3-5 years' experience in management accounting, commercial finance or financial analysis
- Advanced Excel and financial modelling skills
- The ability to communicate financial information in a practical, easy-to-understand way
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- High attention to detail with excellent organisational skills
- Confidence building relationships across all levels of the business
- Experience within contracting, construction, civil, agriculture or a similar operational industry would be highly regarded
