Three Rivers Contracting is a well-established Southland business operating across agricultural contracting, transport and quarrying. With a modern and diverse fleet, we rely on a high-performing workshop to keep our operations running safely, efficiently and reliably.
We're looking for an experienced Head Mechanic / Workshop Manager to lead our workshop team and take ownership of the maintenance and performance of our fleet and equipment.
This is a key leadership role that combines hands-on mechanical work with workshop management, team leadership and strategic planning. You'll play an integral part in supporting the continued growth and success of the Three Rivers Group.
About the Role
You'll be responsible for leading the day-to-day operation of our workshop while ensuring our fleet and machinery are maintained to the highest possible standard.
Your responsibilities will include:- Leading, mentoring and developing a team of mechanics, engineers and apprentices
- Planning and prioritising workshop workloads to support operational demands
- Managing preventative maintenance programmes across our fleet and plant
- Coordinating servicing, repairs and emergency breakdowns
- Overseeing engineering and fabrication work
- Managing workshop budgets, purchasing and inventory
- Ensuring compliance with COFs, WOFs, Road User Charges and maintenance schedules
- Working closely with operations to maximise fleet availability and minimise downtime
- Driving continuous improvement across workshop systems, processes and performance
- Promoting a strong culture of safety, quality workmanship and accountability
Our fleet includes trucks, trailers, tractors, excavators, loaders, rollers, quarry plant, balers, wrappers, agricultural machinery, utes and workshop equipment.
About You:- Holds a Heavy Diesel Mechanic or equivalent trade qualification
- Has extensive experience working on heavy transport, agricultural or quarry equipment
- Has previous Workshop Manager, Foreman or senior mechanical leadership experience (preferred)
- Is a confident leader who enjoys developing and mentoring others
- Has excellent diagnostic and problem-solving skills
- Understands preventative maintenance and workshop planning
- Has strong organisational and communication skills
- Is commercially aware and understands the importance of controlling maintenance costs
- Takes pride in delivering quality workmanship and maintaining high workshop standards
- Leads by example with a positive attitude, professionalism and strong work ethic
