  • Carpenter / Foreman role - lead your own jobs
  • Small, tight-knit team with strong culture
  • Attractive $$ and guaranteed 40 hours per week

  • Dalziel Development Ltd is a well-established North Otago building company delivering a wide range of projects, from residential homes and renovations to sheds and rural builds. We're a small, tight-knit team that values quality workmanship, practical thinking, and taking pride in a job well done. With strong relationships across the rural sector, we're known for delivering consistently high standards and clear communication.

We're looking for someone who takes ownership, communicates clearly, and delivers work right the first time.

This is a role for a tradesperson who wants more than just being on the tools - someone ready to lead projects and be accountable for the outcome.

    About the Role:

This is a hands-on position where you'll lead jobs from start to finish - managing materials, coordinating subcontractors, planning workflows, and mentoring apprentices.

You are accountable for the outcome of the job - quality, timeline, and communication.

You'll start with smaller projects and grow into larger, more complex builds as you establish yourself within the team.

    Key Responsibilities will include::
    • Lead and manage building projects independently
    • Take full ownership of job delivery from start to finish
    • Coordinate subcontractors, materials, and timelines
    • Ensure high-quality workmanship across all builds
    • Supervise and mentor apprentices
    • Maintain strong communication with clients and the team
    • Plan ahead and problem-solve on-site
    About You

We are looking for a well-rounded tradesperson with a solid work ethic, a positive attitude, and the confidence to take ownership of their work and projects.

You don't just complete tasks - you take pride in delivering a job properly, on time, and to a high standard.

We are looking for someone who can demonstrate the following:
    • Qualified Carpenter (National Certificate or equivalent)
    • Minimum 4+ years' industry experience
    • Proven ability to run jobs unsupervised
    • Strong attention to detail and pride in high-end workmanship
    • Experience across a range of construction (renos, roofing, concrete, rural builds, etc.)
    • Leadership ability and confidence managing a small team
    • Good time management and planning skills
    • Physically fit and confident working at heights
    • Full NZ driver's licence
    • Current NZ work rights (or valid visa with minimum 12 months remaining and NZ/Aus experience)
    In return, you can expect:
    • Competitive hourly rate
    • Guaranteed 40 hours/week (typically 43-46 hours)
    • Monday-Friday work - no weekends or stat days
    • 2-3 weeks off over Christmas
    • Work vehicle provided
    • Tool allowance + large tools supplied
    • Variety of work across residential, rural, and landscaping projects
    • Supportive, family-oriented team (team of 4)
    • Strong team culture with social events
    • Opportunity to step into larger projects and greater leadership responsibility over time
    • Assistance with relocation/housing in Oamaru if needed
If you're ready to step into a role where you can lead projects, take ownership, and grow your responsibility, develop your skills, and be part of a great team, we'd love to hear from you.
