About the Role
John Ward Electrical Ltd has an exciting opportunity for a qualified electrician with strong IT and automation skills to join our growing team.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys problem solving, programming, and working with advanced electrical control systems. The successful applicant will work across a wide range of PC-controlled electrical systems, PLC automation, and network-connected equipment used throughout the industrial and automation sectors within the Bay of Plenty.
You will be involved in both new system development and troubleshooting existing automated systems, making this a technically rewarding role with significant variety.
Key Responsibilities:- Installation and commissioning of PLC-controlled electrical systems
- Programming, troubleshooting and maintaining automation control systems
- Working with PC-based industrial control platforms
- Configuring and supporting industrial data networks and IP-based devices
- Diagnosing and resolving faults in automation and control systems
- Building and improving custom control solutions for industrial clients
- Supporting system upgrades and integration of new technology platforms
- Assisting with development of smart and automated electrical systems
Skills and Experience Required
Essential:- Strong computer and IT literacy
- Experience working with data networks and IP addressing
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
- Ability to work both independently and within a technical team
- Experience with PLC programming and automation systems
Highly Desirable:- NZ Registered Electrician (preferable but not essential)
- Knowledge of industrial instrumentation and sensors
- Experience with Raspberry Pi or microcontroller platforms
- Exposure to SCADA or industrial control software
- Experience working in industrial environments

Location
This role is based in the Bay of Plenty, servicing a variety of industrial, horticultural/post-harvest clients throughout the region.
