  • Competitive pay and long-term career opportunity
  • Work across Dunedin and the wider region

  • McEwan Haulage is family-owned transport and earthworks company operating since 2012. We undertake work throughout the South Island, working with some of NZ's most respected companies and are committed to providing leading edge solutions.

We're currently looking for a practical, hands-on Civil Supervisor to lead the day-to-day delivery of civil construction works across Dunedin and the wider region.

Our civil team punches well above its weight, consistently delivering high-quality outcomes supported by a strong in-house trucking operation. This is a lead-from-the-front role, suited to someone who enjoys being on site, taking ownership of delivery, and working alongside their crew to get the job done right.

You'll be responsible for planning and sequencing works across earthworks, roading, pavements, and small structures, while coordinating plant, labour, materials, and subcontractors to meet programme, quality, and safety targets.

    Key Responsibilities will include:
    • Lead and supervise operational staff on civil construction sites
    • Set clear daily work plans, priorities, and expectations
    • Assist with pricing and scoping of works
    • Set up sites for success, ensuring all health and safety documentation is completed prior to works commencing
    • Provide on-the-ground coaching, guidance, and support to team members
    • Foster a strong team culture aligned with McEwan Haulage values
    • Lead by example with attitude, work ethic, and strong site presence
    • Operate plant and work on the tools when required
    • Complete onsite surveying and set-out
    • Ensure compliance with council and regulatory requirements
    • Maintain basic site records and site presentation standards
To be considered for this opportunity, you'll need to demonstrate:
    • Full, clean NZ Driver Licence (Class 2 or higher preferred)
    • Strong background in civil construction
    • Minimum 3+ years' experience in a supervisory role (preferred)
    • Confident decision-maker with practical problem-solving skills
    • Willing and capable of working hands-on and operating plant
    • WTR endorsements and/or heavy vehicle licences (preferred)
    • Experience with Leica GPS and TPS systems is advantageous but not essential
    • Strong communication skills and a proactive, team-focused approach
We are proud to be a values-driven business known for quality delivery and long-term relationships - both with clients and our people.

This position offers stable local work, competitive remuneration, solid operational support, and the opportunity to help grow and shape a high-performing civil construction division within an established company.
