Lift Literacy and Numeracy Together at Tamatea High School
|
We are seeking a committed Literacy and Numeracy Learning Assistant to support identified ākonga to accelerate progress through in class support, structured small group workshops, and targeted interventions. The focus is on helping students access learning across the New Zealand Curriculum and relevant school standards and expectations, while building learning capability, confidence, and independence.
This role includes:- Supporting literacy and numeracy learning in class and in small groups across learning areas
- Delivering structured workshops that build the skills students need to succeed across subjects and assessment pathways
- Using teacher planning, like learning intentions, success criteria, exemplars, and scaffolds to remove barriers and lift achievement
- Strengthening learning behaviours such as goal setting, organisation, persistence, and using feedback
- Working alongside teachers to enhance planning by sharing learner insights, effective scaffolds, and next steps
- Maintaining brief progress notes and contributing to agreed tracking and review processes
- Supporting an inclusive, culturally sustaining learning environment aligned with our PRIDE values and Te Tiriti o Waitangi commitments
We are looking for someone who has:- Strong relational practice with rangatahi and clear communication skills
- The ability to deliver structured small group learning and 1 to 1 support in a busy classroom environment
- Good organisation and flexibility to work across classes and year levels
- A commitment to confidentiality, inclusion, and culturally responsive practice
- Basic digital competence, including Google tools
Tenure and hours are term time only, part time or full time by agreement. Appointment is subject to Police vetting and Children's Act safety checking.
