Metcon is a well-established metal construction and fabrication business based in Tawa, delivering high-quality structural, architectural, and custom metal solutions across commercial and industrial projects. We specialise in precision laser cutting, water-jet cutting, fabrication, and on-site installation for a wide range of architectural and structural work.
Our workshop produces precision components built to last, and we take real pride in the quality, craftsmanship, and attention to detail behind every job.
Due to continued workflow and business growth, we are looking for multiple Fabricators and specialist Aluminium Proprietary Balustrade & Handrail Fabricators & Installers to join our team.
We're also open to junior or developing operators who are motivated, keen to learn the trade, and looking to build long-term skills in a supportive, high-standards environment.
About the role
As a Fabrication Operator, you'll work in a busy workshop environment constructing, assembling, and finishing metal components to specification.
Depending on your experience, your duties may include:- Reading and interpreting technical drawings and job specifications
- Cutting, bending, and shaping metal materials
- Welding components (MIG / TIG, depending on capability)
- Assembling fabricated components and securing fixtures
- Grinding, finishing, and preparing components to a high-quality standard
- Measuring, marking, and inspecting finished products for accuracy and quality
- Operating workshop tools and machinery safely and correctly
- Carrying out basic equipment checks and maintenance
- Maintaining a clean, organised, and safety-focused work area
These roles will be tailored to your skill level, with structured training and support provided for junior or developing operators.
About you
We're open to applicants at different stages of their career.
You may be:- An experienced fabricator / welder with strong technical skills and pride in your workmanship, or
- A junior or entry-level operator with mechanical aptitude, a good attitude, and a genuine interest in learning metal fabrication
Ideally, you'll bring:- Experience using power tools and workshop equipment
- Experience with stainless steel, mild steel, and aluminium fabrication, preferably in light/bespoke fabrication environments
- Ability to follow drawings, instructions, and quality standards
- Strong awareness of health and safety requirements
- Physical capability to work in a hands-on workshop environment
- A reliable, team-focused attitude
