Technical Leadership Without the Workshop Grind
|
Foton Motor Group is a leading global manufacturer of commercial vehicles, with operations across more than 130 markets worldwide. Foton New Zealand, part of the Ebbett Group, is the official importer and distributor of Foton commercial vehicles, including utes, vans and trucks. As we undergo a major brand and product transformation, we're gearing up for the next phase of growth in the NZ market, with new products and technologies leading the way. To support this momentum, we're looking for a Technical Support Specialist to diagnose, train and support our national dealer network as we roll out the next generation of commercial and new energy vehicles.
Ready to get off the tools but still love the technical challenge? If you're an automotive technician who enjoys solving complex problems, coaching others, building dealer capability, and being the go-to when things don't add up - we want you!
Based at our new, purpose-built national head office in Hamilton, this role offers the opportunity to make a genuine, distributor-level impact with a fast-expanding automotive brand.
Reporting to the National Aftersales Manager, you'll be backed by a small but high-performing team that genuinely supports each other when the pressure's on.
What You'll Do:- Deliver hands-on and virtual technical training and guidance to dealer technicians nationwide.
- Provide expert support for diagnostics, complex repairs and technical queries across the dealer network.
- Escalate complex technical cases to senior technical and factory teams where required.
- Identify emerging or recurring technical issues and feed insights back to drive continuous product quality improvements.
- Support technical readiness for new model launches, including next-generation commercial and new energy vehicles.
- Develop clear, effective training materials and technical update bulletins.
- Build strong, collaborative relationships across dealers, OEM partners and internal teams.
- Manage warranty-based repairs for support service agents nationwide.
- Support the warranty department to assess, guide and submit claims.
What You'll Bring:- Trade-qualified Light or Heavy Automotive Technician with a minimum of five years' proven workshop experience.
- Strong diagnostic and problem-solving capability across ICE platforms, with exposure to EV and hybrid systems highly regarded.
- Clear, confident written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts into practical, actionable guidance.
- Solid organisational skills and the ability to work independently, while being detail-focused and comfortable managing multiple cases.
- A flexible, can-do attitude to handle a variety of tasks.
- A full, clean, and current driver licence (class 2 or higher would be even better).
- Experience as a technical trainer would be a big plus, but not essential.
Why Foton NZ?
This isn't a "sit behind a desk" role - it's hands-on, influential and, at times, mission-critical. You'll help shape dealer capability, lift technical standards and play a key role in the future of the Foton brand in New Zealand - alongside a supportive, driven team that's building something big.
If you're ready to step into a role where your technical knowledge genuinely matters, hit Apply - we'd love to hear from you.
