    The role

    We are seeking experienced plumbing technicians ready to take the next step in their careers.

    The Designpro Lead Technician manages multiple projects, either completing them independently or collaborating with other Designpro plumbers. They are recognised and rewarded for their outstanding work and valuable contribution to the organisation.

    Purpose of the Role

    The Designpro technician role is designed for experienced plumbers seeking career growth, management, or business ownership, and rewards them for what they can control.

    Manage their plumbing cost centre's operational, financial, and quality performance.

    This role ensures that every job the technician is responsible for is accurately scoped and quoted, completed safely, on time, within budget, and exceeds the client's expectations.

    Key Responsibilities

    Financial & Commercial Management:
    • Accountable for managing departmental profit and loss, ensuring profitability targets are met and exceeded.
    • Ensures accurate estimating and job costing, optimising work for quality, customer value, and business return.
    • Manage all direct costs from work performed in the department with a focus on efficiency and value.
    • Contributes to pricing strategies and prepares client proposals for all Designpro services.
    Operational Oversight:
    • Lead, schedule, and supervise plumbing jobs from start to finish, including overseeing work performed by other DesignPro technicians
    • Ensure compliance with health and safety, quality standards, and regulations
    • Drive system and process improvements that increase team output and reduce waste
    Leadership & Team Development:
    • Capable of guiding and mentoring a team of plumbers and apprentices, fostering a high-performance culture
    • Support the business in their recruitment, onboarding, and performance management of the DesignPro technicians
    Customer & Stakeholder Engagement:
    • Act as the primary contact for key plumbing clients and stakeholders
    • Address escalations, handle variations, and ensure customer satisfaction
    • Represent your cost centre at management meetings and planning sessions
    Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
    • Gross profit contribution of the work delivered under your guidance
    • Budget versus actual performance
    • Staff productivity and utilisation rates
    • Job completion timeframes and quality assurance
    • Client satisfaction
    Skills & Experience:
    • Licensed plumber with 2+ years of experience
    • Proven experience in quoting, buying and overall job costing, budgeting, and profit responsibility
    • Strong leadership and team management skills
    • Excellent understanding of NZ plumbing compliance and standards
    • Ability to lead operational change and systems improvements
    Personal Attributes:
    • Commercially aware and outcome focused
    • Solutions-oriented with strong decision-making capability
    • Confident communicator with a team-first attitude
    • Able to work under pressure and manage competing priorities
    Designpro Technician Bonus Scheme

    A Designpro Lead Technician are only responsible for what they can change and control. The bonus scheme rewards them for achieving expected outcomes from their efforts.

    These are measured for all the work accountable to the Designpro Lead Technician. This includes all incomes and direct costs. The bonus is eligible based on their key performance goals.
