Absolute Stainless Ltd was established in October 2001 by Simon and Sue Mehrtens, with the aim to supply the Whangarei area with top quality stainless products at an affordable price. In the beginning the majority of customers were from the marine industry here in Whangarei but business grew rapidly to include work from the commercial, residential and construction industries from Kaitaia through to Auckland. We are now supplying businesses and the private sector with a large variety of stainless and aluminum products and services. We moved into our own purpose-built workshop in June 2019, where we have continued to grow - With Mckenna Stainless Fittings becoming part of our business in 2024. Mckenna has a 30 year history, supplying quality stainless fabricated tees, concentric reducers, eccentric reducers and pulled tees to distributors.
We are currently looking for a Stainless Steel Tradesman / Fabricator to join our team working on hand rails, bench tops, commercial kitchens & rangehoods, tanks, flashings and many more custom items.
This is a full time position working 80 hours per fortnight - Monday to Thursday 7:00am - 4:30pm and every second Friday 7:00am to 3:30pm - Giving you a three day weekend every fortnight.
You will have proven experience working in light gauge stainless steel, capable of producing high-quality work with attention to detail and a strong commitment to safety and craftsmanship.
Key Responsibilities:- Fabrication, TIG/MIG welding, and finishing of stainless steel components
- Reading and interpreting technical drawings and fabrication plans
- Operation of workshop machinery and hand tools
- Assembly, installation, and site work as required
- Maintaining high standards of workmanship and quality control
- Working collaboratively within a small, supportive team
About You:- Proven experience in light gauge stainless steel fabrication is essential
- Proficient in TIG welding (MIG an advantage)
- Strong understanding of stainless steel grades, finishes, and fabrication techniques
- Ability to work from detailed drawings with accuracy
- Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach
- Reliable, punctual and committed to producing quality work
- Current driver's licence (preferred)
- Trade qualification (desirable but not essential if skills are proven)
