  • We're seeking a qualified School Counsellor to join our caring, high-trust pastoral team at Tamatea High School in Ahuriri Napier.

    You'll provide short-term, solution-focused counselling and wellbeing support for rangatahi, work closely with staff and whānau, and help us strengthen a safe, inclusive environment grounded in our PRIDE values and culturally responsive practice.

    What you'll do:
    • Provide accessible counselling for ākonga, including individual, group and crisis support, with timely needs and risk assessments and clear referral pathways to external services where appropriate.
    • Maintain secure records and uphold confidentiality in line with the Privacy Act and HIPC while escalating safety concerns appropriately.
    • Partner with staff to promote student wellbeing, contribute to trends-based reporting, and engage positively with parents, caregivers and whānau.
    What you'll bring:
    • Current NZAC membership or eligibility, or equivalent professional affiliation.
    • Relevant counselling qualification and experience working with rangatahi in school or youth settings.
    • Strengths in culturally responsive practice, clear boundaries, excellent communication, and the resilience to work with complexity.
