Are you a skilled leader with a passion for production, people, and quality?
We're seeking a proactive and hands-on Production Manager to oversee our cherry operations in Cromwell for the upcoming season.
About the Role
Production Manager is a senior role managing a large team, you'll be responsible for the smooth, efficient, and safe operation of our cherry production process during the peak season. While you'll oversee packhouse activities, you'll also work closely with orchard teams and management, ensuring seamless coordination across all areas.
Key responsibilities include:- Day-to-day management of production and packhouse operations
- Liaising with orchard managers, export and sales teams, and senior management
- Scheduling and processing fruit from multiple customers
- Supervising the TOMRA grader and packhouse machinery (setup, tuning, maintenance)
- Overseeing packing, cool storage, and freight logistics
- Ensuring compliance with quality, health & safety, and audit requirements (including Global Gap)
- Recruiting, training, and supervising seasonal staff
- Managing budgets, labour costs, and reporting
- Building strong relationships with clients, orchard teams, and management
What We're Looking For:- Proven experience leading large teams in a production, packhouse, or horticultural environment (fruit industry experience preferred)
- Technical aptitude with modern grading/sorting machinery (TOMRA experience a plus)
- Strong people management and communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively across teams and departments
- Proactive problem solver with a focus on quality and efficiency
- Computer literacy and sound organisational skills
- Commitment to workplace safety and positive team culture
Role Details:- Location: Cromwell, Central Otago
- Term: Fixed term, approx. 3 months (December - 28 February)
- Hours: As required to meet operational needs (seasonal peaks)
- Reporting to: Operations Manager
