Furtex is a New Zealand family-owned business. We have been sourcing, designing, manufacturing, and innovating textile products for over 80 years. Today the family legacy continues, four generations on, to provide discerning clients with outstanding interior furnishings and customer service to match. We design and develop our products from our hometown in Pukekohe, New Zealand. The products we store in our warehouse range from cushions/covers, throws, rugs and rug samples.
About the Role:
Our Supply Chain & Operations Manager will take ownership of our end-to-end supply chain. This role will oversee supplier management, inbound freight, procurement, inventory replenishment across NZ and Australian warehouses, and ensure product quality standards are met. The position will directly manage the NZ warehouse team, provide leadership to the Procurement Manager, and oversee the Australian warehouse manager.
In addition to supply chain responsibilities, this role will provide secondary leadership in IT systems and digital tools, ensuring our ERP, warehouse management, and reporting systems are optimised to support growth and efficiency. A key focus will be embedding Lean principles to eliminate waste, improve flow, and continuously enhance the performance of our supply chain.
This is a key leadership role in ensuring that the right stock is in the right place at the right time, at the right quality - supporting the growth of our importing and wholesale textile business.
Duties and responsibilities:- Lead and manage procurement activities through the Procurement Manager, ensuring supplier performance, quality, and cost efficiency.
- Oversee purchasing and replenishment to ensure optimal stock levels across NZ and Australian warehouses.
- Manage supplier relationships, negotiate lead times, and resolve delivery issues.
- Develop and implement demand forecasting and inventory planning processes.
- Monitor and report on supplier performance, delivery timelines, and compliance.
- Directly manage the NZ warehouse operations, ensuring accurate picking, packing, and dispatch.
- Provide oversight and support to the Australian warehouse manager.
- Ensure accurate inventory control and timely replenishment between warehouses.
- Apply Lean principles to reduce waste, optimise warehouse layouts, and improve flow of goods.
- Implement continuous improvement projects to increase productivity and reduce operational costs.
- Establish and manage inbound quality control processes to ensure products meet required standards.
- Work with suppliers to resolve product quality issues and reduce defects/returns.
- Drive root-cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives for quality assurance.
- Act as business owner for ERP, WMS, and related IT systems (NetSuite preferred), ensuring they support operational excellence.
- Work with IT providers and internal users to improve system performance, reporting, and integration.
- Champion digital tools for forecasting, reporting, and process automation.
- Support data accuracy and provide system-driven insights for decision-making.
- Lead, coach, and develop warehouse, procurement, and supply chain staff.
- Embed Lean principles and a culture of continuous improvement across operations.
- Drive efficiency through better use of processes, systems, and automation.
- Collaborate with sales, finance, and IT to ensure smooth cross-functional operations.
- Provide regular reporting and insights to management on supply chain and procurement performance.
Skills and experience required:- Proven experience in supply chain, procurement, logistics, or operations (preferably in importing/wholesale).
- Strong understanding of inventory management, forecasting, and replenishment.
- Experience managing procurement teams and supplier relationships.
- Hands-on experience with warehouse management and process improvement.
- Familiarity with ERP/WMS systems (NetSuite experience highly advantageous).
- Strong IT acumen: ability to lead ERP/WMS projects, optimise workflows, and drive adoption of new tools.
- Knowledge and application of Lean principles (e.g. 5S, Kaizen, value stream mapping).
- Leadership skills with the ability to manage across multiple sites and functions.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical mindset.
