  • Established in 2016, Pounamu Tourism Group is a growing inbound tour operator specialising in delivering memorable rail and coach tourism experiences in New Zealand's South Island. The business is led by experienced tourism and event professionals.     The Train Hospitality Manager is responsible for the operational delivery of our Train tours, departing mainly out of Christchurch. This includes coordinating preseason documentation and tour product alongside the Operations Manager, leading a team of Train Hosts and allocating tasks, hosting guests, health and safety for all on board and ensuring a memorable experience.

    This is a fixed-term opportunity, expected to commence in late September or early October. Our summer season tours run from October through April, with potential for continued work during the winter season (dates to be confirmed).

    The Train Hospitality Manager plays an important role in ensuring the smooth operation of tours and that guests enjoyed their time on board as well as providing them with practical support through the trip:
    • Welcome all guests at the platform.
    • Manage ticketing and check-in.
    • Take care of guests safety and on board experience.
    • Understanding group dynamics.
    • Awareness of hazards and environmental impacts.
    • Provide exceptional customer service.
    • Good communication with the Operations Manager on any matters that arise.
    • Ability to engage and communicate effectively with diverse groups of people.
    • Address guests appropriately and take interest in their stories.
    • Have good English and the ability to pronounce Te Reo Maori.

    Our successful candidate will need to demonstrate:
    • Proven hospitality industry experience including managing a team
    • A full drivers licence
    • Bar Managers Licence and Comprehensive First Aid (we can support renewal if required)
    • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage a diverse team.
    • Excellent organisational and problem-solving abilities.
    • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
    • Knowledge of safety regulations and compliance standards.
    • A sharp eye for detail and consistency.
    • Able to problem solve and think quickly on your feet.
    • Culturally aware and respectful of diverse backgrounds.
    • Takes initiative, is eager to learn, take on feedback and can adapt easily.
