  • Guide. Drive. Inspire. Lead unforgettable journeys across Aotearoa.

Stray isn't just a job. It's a lifestyle. If you love meeting new people, exploring hidden corners of Aotearoa / New Zealand, and bringing the energy every single day - this role is for you.

    About Us:

Stray is Aotearoa / New Zealand's leading adventure travel company, known for off-the-beaten-path experiences that connect international travellers to our people, places, and stories.

Our purpose, to share our world - our people, our places, our culture - and be a force for positive change. We're guided by three core values:
    • Passion & Sizzle - We bring the energy and spark to every journey
    • Making a Difference - From small actions to big impact, we care
    • Walking the Walk - We do what we say, and we live what we lead
    The Role

You'll guide, drive, and inspire groups of young and young-at-heart travellers from around the globe, delivering epic, safe, and meaningful experiences from Auckland to Bluff. Our trips range from 14 to 24 days across both islands, hitting iconic highlights and secret local spots.

You're not just behind the wheel - you're the storyteller, logistics whiz, hype crew, safety lead, and friendly face of Stray.

    What We're Looking For

    You're:
    • Full of energy, charm, humor, and heart
    • A natural storyteller who's proud to share Aotearoa's culture, land, and legends
    • Comfortable engaging with everyone - from gap-year backpackers to young-at-heart adventurers
    • Safety-conscious and confident behind the wheel (or keen to learn)
    • Flexible and adventure-ready - working weekends and holidays is all part of the fun
    • Passionate about sustainability and making a positive impact wherever you go
You have (or are keen to get):
    • A New Zealand Class 2 driver's license and P endorsement
    • A Comprehensive First Aid Certificate
    • Experience in tourism, hospitality, or customer service (bonus points!)
    What You'll Get:
    • A paid adventure: travel Aotearoa from October to April
    • Competitive pay + commission
    • Top-tier training in driving, safety, logistics, and group leadership
    • Scheduled time off so you can explore too
    • A tight-knit, supportive team who live and breathe Stray values
    • Career growth in a company that's going places
    • Opportunities to participate in and support our community and conservation partners, like Blue Duck Station and Lake Aniwhenua
    • Invitations to famil's (familiarisation trips) - because our guides experience what we sell
    • The chance to truly make a difference in people's lives - and your own
    What It's Like

This is not a desk job. One day you might be cruising down the wild West Coast, sharing stories over the mic as glaciers rise in the distance. Next, you're guiding your group through a quirky local town or checking them into a remote lodge. You'll cross islands, navigate scenic backroads, and bring the energy that turns a trip into a life-long memory.

Every day is different. Every group is unique. And you'll be the reason they fall in love with Aotearoa / New Zealand.
