    • Douglas Furniture is a well-known and established Canterbury joinery company. Our business is locally owned and operated and has a long history and heritage in the industry. With an emphasis on customised design and manufacture, we cater for clients needs ranging from basic through to complex. Our key focus is commercial interiors and offices but in recent years we have grown our residential portfolio.

    We are looking for the services of a multi-talented individual to provide maternity cover for a design and estimating role within our business. This is a Fixed Term contract of approx. 12 months including a handover period. There may be potential for an ongoing role at the end of the fixed term.

    Key Responsibilities:
    • Design custom kitchens, laundries, and other residential and commercial joinery
    • Accurately price plans and tenders for various joinery projects
    • Analyse plans, specifications, and project requirements
    • Interpret architectural drawings and technical information
    • Accurately assess material, labour and time requirements & prepare detailed cost estimates
    • Collaborate with clients, project managers, suppliers and our internal teams
    • Help clients with their designs and collaborate with clients to stay within budget
    • Have a good understating of current material available in the market
    The successful candidate would ideally have the following skill set:
    • Experience in kitchen and joinery design is a must - Minimum of 3 years (5+ preferred)
    • A good understanding of how to read architectural plans and details
    • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to tailor designs to client needs
    • Being able to complete site measures
    • Proven ability to manage your own workload and meet deadlines under pressure
    • The ability to excel using different pricing software, with a good understanding of Word and Excel
    • Experience with Winner design software, having microvellum experience would be a bonus
    • Strong organisational and communication skills
    • A problem-solving mindset and willingness to contribute to a collaborative team environment
    • A friendly and outgoing personality
    • A desire to learn and contribute as part of a team
    Remuneration will be based on your skills and experience. You will be a NZ resident, or, have the relevant work permits that allow you to work in NZ.
